What is the player's velocity?

Did we not just talk about this?  In everyday conversations we often use the words velocity and speed interchangeably.  But in physics, velocity is more than speed.

Duration of Video Clip: 0.86s     Speed of the player:  approximately 6 yards/s

To find the player's velocity you must determine his speed, and the direction in which he is moving.  His velocity is approximately 6 yards/s towards the right of the viewer.  How do we specify direction?  We need some reference system.

If we use the stadium as the reference system, we can say he is heading towards the end zone with the Jumbotron. If we can locate the stadium on a map we can see that he is heading approximately South. If we overlay the field with a coordinate system, we can say that he is moving into the positive x-direction.

Pick an animation and determine the velocity of someone or something moving across the field!

Football gets interesting when velocities are changing?  Let us explore!
