Up Which Way? Why do we care?

Acceleration has a direction!

If the object is speeding up, the direction of the acceleration is the direction of the initial velocity.
Representation:
If the object is slowing down, the direction of the acceleration is opposite to the direction of the initial velocity.

If the object is turning, the direction of the acceleration is perpendicular to the direction of the initial velocity towards the center of the turn.
